Goldeneye coming to Wii!?

Posted under Uncategorized

Aside from Ocarina of Time, one other game Wii owners have been begging to get on virtual console is Rare’s N64 shooter masterpiece, Goldeneye 007. But how possible will getting Rare’s classic on the virtual console be?

A Rare fan decided to ask if any of Rare’s own franchises would be able to make it on to the virtual console on Rare’s Q&A section of their bulletin board, and here is what they had to say about the possibility:

“This is where we finally edge into territory that could see Scribes neutron bombed from management level. The only Rare-developed title on Virtual Console right now is the original Donkey Kong Country, and unofficially there’s a strong likelihood that its sequels will follow.

“But the Donkey Kong series of games is a Nintendo-owned franchise starring an established Nintendo character, whereas something like Banjo isn’t (and even Diddy Kong Racing is less clear-cut), so it’s nowhere near as easy to call.

“Especially when you also consider the existence of Xbox Live Arcade. So right now, the best answer we can offer (for either download service) is ‘it’s possible’. I like your sausage casserole mix, by the way.”

Sausage casserole indeed.

Wii Cracked!

Posted under Uncategorized

Nintendo today told SPOnG that it’s not prepared to offer comment on the new product that a US-based online store, modchipstore.com, is planning to sell. Strange, as this product is expressly designed to compromise the Wii’s anti-piracy software. It’s called ‘WiiKey’ and it is publicly available on February 28th,.

According to the company:

”The WiiKey is your universal Solution!
The incrdible, fantastic, Wiikey modchip for the Nintendo Wii has arrived! This is one of the easiest modchips to install on any system. A quicksolder pattern on the PCB board removes the need for wires. All you need to do us solder onto the designated parts and you’re finished!!! This awesome chip also boasts upgradeablity via Disc or DVD!
Other Features include: An optional off feature and LED to let you know when your Wiikey is on or off.”

First MySims details arise

Posted under Uncategorized

Other than the cutesy make-over, very little has been revealed regarding MySims, in development exclusively for Wii and DS, until now.

MySims features a simple block-building mechanic which lets you “build things like chairs and tables from scratch instead of just ordering them from a catalogue.” You can also modify houses in an equally flexible way.

Another new feature is one called “Essence” which lets you extract the, err… essence of objects you acquire. Then you can use this Essence to decorate your many created objects. You can also plant seeds to grow flowers, adding a Harvest Moon-style farming system into the mix.

Worst Selling Games of 2006

Posted under Uncategorized

The game industry is quick to trump its accomplishments; bestsellers, growing revenues, and market expansion. The optimist in us likes that, but what’s a pessimist to do? Well the recent issue of EGM (Mar ‘07) has a listicle that’s hard to argue over: the worst-selling games of 2006. Though the always-serious Seanbaby fails to mention a specific source, he says “These games were selected from sales figures of the least purchased games of 2006 — cold, hard, indisputable measurements of suck.” They are:

  • Unison: Rebels of Rhythm & Dance (PS2)
  • Kakuto Chojin: Back Alley Brutal (XB)
  • Frogger Beyond (XB)
  • Bomberman: Act Zero (XB360)
  • Freestyle Street Soccer (XB)
  • Egg Mania: Eggstreme Madness (XB)
  • Space Ace (XB)

That’s a lot of Xbox 1 games. Translation: “She’s going down! Send the dross with it!”

New Sadness Details Revealed

Posted under Uncategorized

Finally, new details for Sadness on Wii have emerged after months of worrying silence.

The mysterious survival thriller for Wii will have to take on the roll of Maria having just survived a serious train crash, the latest issue of Game Informer reveals.

Maria has to watch over her little brother, Alexander, who was unfortunately blinded during the crash, but things take an X-Files-style turn when Alexander starts acting “odd”.

Without weapons, Maria and Alexander have to make use of environmental objects in their struggle to survive the chilling events that await.

Although still we’re still light on actual gameplay info, at least these emerging details confirm that work on the elusive thriller is ongoing, in a top-secret underground base, we assume.

NPR commentary says Wii offers nothing but “a false sense of what it’s like to compete in the world”

Posted under Uncategorized

Parents often get a bad rap when it comes to video games. If they aren’t complaining about how violent games are and then ignorantly buying their children the same games in the quest for pacifism, they’re on a crusade to get their children to go outside and enjoy the real world. However, nothing you’ve seen, heard, or read before will prepare you for the latest parental concern regarding video games. Continue Reading »
